The bernese mountain dogs history can be traced back to Switzerland where it pulled weavers' and cheesemakers' wagons. The bernese mountain dog came to the US in the 1930's. It belongs to the working breed of dog. The coat is long, thick, soft, silky, slightly waved with a high luster. The color may be tri-colored, black, white and rust, jet black with rich rust markings, jet black with white blaze on chest and head and white tail and toe tips.
